When talk comes of heaven, two natural responses might pop up: escapism and morbidity.
With regard to the former, Jesus was the original escape artist because heaven was his “hometown” and it’s only natural to have a fondness of where you are from. That’s why he spoke of it so often.
With regard to the latter, the entire gospel talks about life - not death.
Moreover, isn’t it fun to plan a vacation? Seriously, we can’t get brochures or internet-teasers of what heaven is going to be like.
But we can know who we’re going to spend that time with and maybe he’ll squeeze in a tour of his “hometown.”
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: The signs in our lives that speak of heaven whet the appetite of the believer.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name…My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Psalm 63:3,4 NKJV, John 14:2,3 NASB
