(THIS WEEK: The Backside of the Baby.)
So your friend or relative calls and you move into the living room to sit in your Lazy Boy, put your coffee cup on the end table and prepare for a nice long chat to catch up on their world.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to fill them in on your ups and downs and even vent within this trusted relational cocoon.
You almost spill your coffee when you realize they are calling from the car, seem harried and they just need your help getting one of their many tasks done.
You have now entered the life of the “High-D” personality. D=Doer (aka “Leader.”). They’re life is consumed with getting things done and God help those who interrupt, disagree or block their way.
They do get a lot done. They build cities and nations, change the course
of history, reform unjust norms and can really be the go-to person when you need something accomplished or a crisis looms.
They can also leave a trail of tears and footmarks-on-faces on their way to their great feats.
The interesting thing: they can injure people again and again and keep making the same mistakes. It takes the courageous ones to say, “You really hurt me” or, “Did you realize you are an S.O.B.?”
Their response: “I didn’t know you were hurt. I just thought you weren’t moving fast enough or rebelling against me.” Yes, they are that clueless.
Ironically, they can learn to be more sensitive because it's challenge and that's what makes them tick. They need to conquer insensitivity as a task. (And that trait helps their goals. They can learn it or fake it.)
Hang up. Sip your coffee. Pray.
Perhaps you can wake them up with coffee… by spilling it all over them on their way to winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
PORTAL TO HEAVEN: There are two sides to everyone. While a High-D may be demanding and rude, they are tasked by God to lead. Interestingly, they can handle brutal honesty. Some of them don’t have many feelings to get hurt, but confront them lovingly anyway. God fashioned them. They are in our lives for a reason - perhaps it’s The Lord’s way of getting things done…in us.
We have different gifts according to the grace given us…So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you…Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account.

Maybe it’s a blessing Bob to be untalented and a little slow then you can focus on only one thing at a time!
